You may have noticed that we have a new look around here — we’re pretty excited about. One of the many, many, awesome new features we have is the ability to write fancy ampersands. Like this: &. Now I know this won’t seem like much to a lot of people, but I happen to think it’s pretty awesome. To celebrate, here’s an image showing ampersands across different typefaces.
And if that’s not enough, check out ampersandampersand.tumblr.com, a blog that shows off a new ampersand for every day!
I think it’s cool to see all the typographic interpretations here. I think I read somewhere that the design is “etymologically” from the Latin word ‘et’ and you can see that change through various typefaces–the original letterforms being more visible in a font like Trebuchet or even Baskerville than in American Typewriter.
